acer laptop wireless connection

i have a acer 1350 laptop xp sp2 with built-in wireless card

i have belkin wireless router
all works with my desktop ok

not getting wireless connection, in window on laptop 'chose wireless
network' nothing shows

i think i have set everything, how can i check the laptop settings?

Under wireless properties do you have "let windows control my wireless
connections" or something to that affect.

yes
i have also tried the laptop at someone elses hose where i know wirless does
work.
i am looking for a usb network pen to borrow next,
