See http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Infiniti_Photo_3

They have one of the lowest ratings I've ever seen.  Compare that to B&H
Photo.  I ordered my HV-20 (along with many thousands of dollars of gear
over the years) from B&H Photo.  They're the gold standard for honest,
reliable and fair on-line merchants.

Yuh, I wasn't tempted- but amazed that a scammer would push the limit that
way- anyone with any sense at all would be suspicious. Back in '99 purchased
my Nikon F100 35 mm and accessories from B&H. The camera had a problem and I
sent it back for a replacement- then the same issue- sent it back again-
with no hassles from the store- so I'll probably go with them. Back then B&H
had a guy who was active in the 35 mm newsgroup- you could ask him in the
newsgroup or privately all the questions you want- I asked many before
making that purchase.

After a year or so of reading online forums, I have decide to go with the
HV-20 and most likely purchase from B&H. My current concern is what
accessories should I get right away? (at
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/481076-REG/Canon_2059B001_HV20_2_96MP_CMOS_HDV.html) I
realize many accessories I should get when I decide I really need them, but
which should be purchased with the camera? I suppose a case, some filters, a
battery charger and extra batteries. I already have a nice Manfrotto tripod
though I need to add a video head. Any suggestions? How about that wide
angle lens- the WD-H43. How is that comparable to a 35 mm wide angle?

Joe
PS: in addition to reading this forum, I'm very impressed with dvinfo.net
and the new forum dedicated to the HV-20- at http://www.hv20.com/. I'm sure
I'll be asking dozens of questions once I get the camcorder. I'd like to get
up to speed quickly- at least for doing basic stuff.

I wouldn't bother with filters, except a UV to keep the lens safe and,
possibly, a circular polarizer. Definitely batteries and a quck-charger.
B&H has generic batteries.  Normally, I wouldn't trust generics, but I trust
B&H so I'll probably grab those.  A fluid video head is an absolute must for
tripod work -- it's impossible to get smooth pans and tilts without one.
I've got a Bogen 3160 for my Manfrotto sticks, but I'll probably wind up
selling it on eBay and buying the smaller and lighter RC700.  I've also
ordered the Canon WA lens --- reports that I've read indicate that the
widest setting on the HV20 isn't all that wide.  You might want to hold off,
though -- I found that I rarely needed as wide a wide-angle as I thought,
and could better tell my story with careful composition using the field of
view that I had.

B&H offers a DVD instructional guide for the HV-20-
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/505479-REG/Master_Works_JSGCHV20_DVD_Jumpstart_Guide_for.html

I suppose I could get that- it might come in handy for a total neophyte like
myself. Actual product manuals are usually barely legible- print too small
and poor diagrams. I have downloaded a copy of the manual but haven't looked
at it yet.

"With sense" is the operative word.  If you read resellerratings, you'll see
a number of posts that say something like, "I read all the negative comments
about this vendor, but decided to try them anyway . . ."

I believe that was probably Henry Posner.  He's still around from time to
time, I think.

I ordered my HV-20 from B&H around 2am Friday morning.  By noon, it had
shipped.  They're really the best.  If you're ever in New York, you should
stop in and see their brick-and-mortar store.  It's like Disneyland for
cameras and electronics -- I can spend hours there.
