left 1/3 of screen has "white noise box". I can power up the tv, but
that left 1/3 has a box that has no picture. It's just white with a
couple of vertical lines, sometimes the line turn red/blue/green. The
box just appeared one day. I have been using it for 2 years, had it
hung up on wall, and on with a display that changed continuously.
Never saw any symptoms or anything that looked like it was going out.
I have not tried to troublshoot or called a repair place. I know the
warranty is expired. I am a PC Tech so I am sure I could replace a
part if needed. I just need to know where to start. Troubleshooting is
hard to find on the net. Please help!

Either I would find a competent repair shop, or, if I were very
confident of my abilities and my collection of test equipment, I would
buy the service manual for the set and start there.

It is hard to be sure if a given repair facility is competent...Even
the set's manufacturer can't always be depended on.

It is also hard to find the repair manual (service manual, shop manual:
several names are used), and in my recent experience, they are very
expensive.
