Hello,

I have recently bought a DCR-HC96E Sony Handycam to replace my old and
malfunctioning 18E model.

I have a wide angle lens with 25mm filter size and I was wondering if
I can get an adaptor so I can use it on my new camcorder with its 30mm
filter size?

I'm in the UK.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I have the sony DCR-HC32E that also has an 25 mm filter thread, and could
find nowhere a skylight filter, but in sony itself and for 35 euros, when
the camcorder itself cost 350.So, I suppose you would find the adapter only
in sony and pay dearly for it(Unless you have the courage to go to some
major UK city and search and find some special digital video shop, or
whatever).

I wouldn't recommend putting a 25mm hole in front of a lens with a 30mm
diameter. It most likely would vignette seriously.

You could make a temporary thing out of cardboard that would (sort of)
hold the converter without scratching the camcorder's lens, as an
experiment to see if my pessimism is warranted.

Otherwise: have you tried buying an adapter at a camera store?

Thanks for the replies.

Looks like I should get a new wide angle lens, I have hunted through
several camera store websites and not found anything suitable.

Cheers,

Did you try my suggested experiment? You might find it OK for your
purposes...

OTOH, I wouldn't expect to get wonderful results with *any* WA adapter
short of a couple hundred dollars, so if you don't set your sights too
high (i.e., expect too much quality) you should be OK.
