Help - Canon Elura 65 Zooming Automatically while recording!

Hi,

Ive been using my Canon Elura 65 for a while now and it works
fantastically. But Im not sure what I (or my wife!) did during a recent
recording. Now, whenever I want to record, it automatically zooms
gradually from the 'W' to the 'T' zooming positions, then stops at full
zoom (T) and I have to manually bring it back to W. I dont want it to
zoom by itself! And playing back the recorded segment shows the zooming
effect too.

Im recording on SP mode on a tape (not taking pics on the memory card).
I am on Easy Recording Program mode (i.e the square). Even when putting
it on Auto Program AE mode, the automatic zoom still happens. All
settings are on Default.

This is driving me crazy. Anyone pls help!

Thanks a bunch and happy new year!

I had a DV cam do that once before, it was the ribbon cable to the zoom
rocker that had failed.

Do you mean that it is a hardware problem then? And that I should send
the camcorder back to Canon for repairs? FYI - I can zoom in and out
manually.

Hold on!  I was not diagnosing your particular camera's problem. I was
simply relating a similar problem and solution. No one can tell what is
wrong with your camera without actually examining it and doing some
testing.
