Good MiniDV cameras on a budget

I previously posted in this newsgroup on which format of DV camcorder
to get, and due to (convenience vs editing and quality) arguments,
instead of getting a single one for the family it turns out I'm getting
my own camera.  I've decided for a MiniDV camera - they're the best
balance of quality and editing prowess.

I'm trying to find a model to suit my needs though.  They come few and
far between, though.  I'll go into town one day to look, but I'm
basically looking for a widescreen-capable camera with decent optics.
I want something that will work for both days out and independent
films.  HD is obviously not a feature within my price range, which is
about maximum 700 australian dollars.  I'm also going to be using it
with a MacBook - that shouldn't affect my model choice since Macs have
FireWire but it might make a difference somehow.

What brands / models should be suitable?  Any websites you'd recommend
in choosing?

I'd recommend checking out www.camcorderinfo.com for reviews. Make sure
you put aside some $ to buy an external mic for your camera. In many
models the inbuilt mic picks up motor noise.

Yeah, I'm definitely thinking about an external mike.  Thanks for the
page.
