Problem with LCD screen on Sony DCR-TRV350

Hi,

I have two Sony DCR-TRV350 camcorders, and the
LCD viewer has stopped working on both of them.
The screen is sort of whited out, but not very bright.
The Nightshot is off. On one of the cameras the
screen started working again for a while...the picture
just sort of faded back in and it worked for several
uses, and then it eventually faded out again. While
it worked, the view was upside down unless the
viewer was flipped over to view from the front.
Since it went out again it has lines running vertically
in uneven patterns, and some very blurry indistinct
image can be seen when something moves in front
of the camera. Covering the lens also makes it go
dark, but still with the lines running through it. Both
of the eye viewers still work fine so far.

Thanks for any suggestions or explanations!
David

The first place to start is loose or dirty connections.

True, but on those small camcorders those are likely to
be those microscopic ribbon connectors that plug
directly into the equally tiny "edge-connectors". Just
disassembling and re-assembling the thing is something
most of us wouldn't attempt without a service manual.

Yep.
More the reason to suspect loose or dirty connections. :-)
Could be issues with the swivel point contacts, unless those little
cameras have small mercury switches for the LCD viewfinder
orientation.

Where would they be? I don't want to dig into it too
deep, but maybe it wouldn't hurt to take the viewer
itself apart because it doesn't work anyway. Since two
out of two of the cameras I've got developed the same
problem without being abused or damaged in any way,
I was hoping this would be a common problem that
people would be very familiar with.

Did you mess around with the D page programming?

Hi There,
I have had 2 TRV520 cameras (still have the last one)
Both had trouble with the ribon connector that connects the little flip up
keyboard to the camera.  In all it was replaced about 5 times.
My symptoms were that the keys would not do what they were supposed to do
(fast rewind instesd of pause), at first this behaviour was sporadic but it
became more persistent as time went by,
I know of an other person with exactly the same problem but on a slightlyt
different model.

Have you tried swiveling the panel slowly whilst playing back to see if the
display comes good or at least changes its behaviour?

Regards,

Martin.

I had a Sony PD-150 and my LCD acted this way, so I thought it was the heads
that were dirty, I tried a cleaning tape, but it never got corrected.  I
switch over to Canon instead.
