I remember is the days of cassettes for audio,  you could get a three
head tape system where audio could be recorded and split moment later
it would pass by the playback head.  If you switched back and fort
between playback and source, you could see if there is much of a
difference.  Do VHS players and camcorders have this option while
recording? Or does anyone remember this old stuff.

VHS players and tape-based camcorders do not use linear heads, but a rotary
drum.  No consumer unit allows the kind of monitoring you're describing.

Every VHS Camcorder and Deck ever made  had linear audio heads, even
the HiFi units also have linear audio heads. I do not know of any
outside of perhaps high end professional Cams that had "Confidence
Heads" to read what was just recorded.

Thankyou guys,  I understand the head systems are different and it is
not a common consumer option.
