need your help

on monday i will be going out to purchase a new camcorder
i will be spending in the $400 range

The type of camcorder i am getting is a DVD camcorder

i have researched over the internet the websites of Sears,Radio
Shack,Circuit City,CompUSA,Kmart and Walmart
I am not buying online, just using the internet for research

the types of Camcorders i am looking at are Hitachi,Panasonic, and
canon
those are the ones in my price range

my concearns are (1) low light capability and (2) camcorder NOT messing
up during finalizing of DVD
I realize i can use DVD-ram disks, but a concearn there is what about
when i go through X-ray at an airport.

My questions here are Have any of you had expierience with any of these
brands?
can one be recommended vs another,is there one to stay away from?

and some of these companies have more than one model with a price that
is compareable to the other.........can one model be recommeneded over
the other.?

thank you in advance

I'm also planning to buy a new camcorder in the next week,
and I will also spend about 400 euros,

but I notice that the DVD camcorders store the raw video data on the
DVD disk in MPEG2
format, which is a relatively low quality format, optimised for
broadcast or distribution.

In my case I will buy a miniDV format camcorder, which will record
losslessly onto miniDV tape,
then I will transfer to my Macintosh MacBook Pro as a DV stream and
save and watch on my Mac Mini connected to my widescreen Dell 26"LCD
monitor.

In europe, the DVD camcorders are actually MORE EXPENSIVE than the
miniDV , in general,
yet the quality at the final display seems worse to me.

I still havent decide to spend just over 200 euros on a simple JVC, or
should it be 508 euros on a Canon MVX460 1 megapixel, or 487 euros Sony
DCR-44 with Docking Station??

remember to engineer and plan the whole chain - from image acquisition
to storage editing and final display,
and next year many TV's will be HDTV...

best wishes with your choice,
Davey
