I really can't find anything, or i'm not looking hard enough, but i
can't seem to find any small video cameras, can be digital or a
camcorder, thats waterproof, which i can just stick somplace for a long
time. I want a small digital camera capable of taking a video for a
long period of time. However, if someone can find me a camera thats
small and can take videos, and knows how to water proof it, that would
be helpful too. I really don't care what brand it is, just as long as
its one i've heard of before. Being waterproof is the last thing i
want, i just want small and can take videos, and a digital one
preferably, not a camcorder.

I think the X10 folks make an outdoor camera you could use. Check X10.com,
or maybe Smarthome.com.

Also, I don't know if they sell "video" cameras, but a lot of the sportsman
companies (sportsmansguide.com, or cabellos.com) sell cameras for watching
wildlife in the forest.

Depending on your needs, you may also be able to use an old digital camera
with a laptop to take time lapse photo's. I used this approach to take
pictures every 15 minutes of our house building project over a two year
period. My laptop was set up in a shed, and I made a simple waterproof box
out of a rubbermaid container and a piece of glass for the see-through
"lense". Disabled the flash and it worked great.

I don't know what's available in the video world but I know that there are
still camera's that work with a motion sensor to trigger a photo....so one
that would trigger a camcorder to record might work too....except that you
couldn't have the camcorder in standby mode for an extended period of
time....so I suppose you'd have to have some special type of
camcorder.....probably very expensive...

Wal-Mart sells a kit containing a tiny video camera w/IR LEDS for low light,
motion detection, and a device that turns on your VCR for $99.  Check the
website.
