Help please: tv warble woes
It has worked great all these years, never needed service, nothing. Lately, in the past 6 months, I've noticed that when playing my Xbox, in areas of high contrast (i.e. bright areas especially near the top and bottom of the picture) that the screen will warp and press in near the high contrast area. It looks trapezoidal, with the small base along the top of the picture. I had noticed this problem when playing DVD's from my Pioneer DVD player. Both these units are hooked into the S-Video inputs on my TV. And now more recently, some of the stuff from my Xbox is causing the left and right sides of the picture to squeeze and, how should I say, warble (?). It doesn't stay for the entire session, it just appears when there is this bright area near the top or sides. Lots of time the picture appears just fine. At first I thought this was due to the S-Video inputs somehow, but I just hooked my Xbox into my TV using the RCA composite inputs, and there is still the "warbling". So, is my TV slowly crapping out? Can it be fixed? I know its not the newest model out there, but I would like to keep using it for a while. Any advice? Is this something a TV tube will do over time....like the way they say that "hearing is always the first to go on a person", do they say that "high contrast warbling is the first to happen to a TV"? Thanks for any help, Doran On 5/30/2006, dorancat posted this:

You might be able to learn about the cost from a repair shop, if there's a decent one in your neighborhood. He might not agree with my diagnosis, either (that's because he is more likely be right!). There are other failure modes, so no, warbling might not be the first symptom. As I recall, when my older TV failed, the first symptom was a complete loss of functionality. Gino -- Gene E.
