vhs to dvd
I'm going to be transferring some vhs tapes to dvd. I'll be buying a dvd recorder for my pc along with a good capture card (any recommendations? Pinnacle 700 plus?) input will be through the capture card connected to my vhs deck. question: on pre-recorded vhs tapes, which protection schemes should I be concerned with and how do I defeat those? (I hear Macrovision is nasty, any others?) what's the story on "rendering", why does it take so long? what about editing? anything like audio editing? Is the Adobe editor good? thanks,

With the appropriate software, you will not have to worry about DRM and Copyright protection. You can also edit, make menus, and combine sources with an ease and flexibility that you just cannot get with *any* standalone recording device. Bobby The best article for this is:
http://www.newcyberian.com/howto/dvdauthoring.html If you already have a digital camcorder you may not even need a capture card. Just feed the analog signal from your VHS to the camcorder and connect the camcorder to a fast computer via the IEEE 1394 firewire port. Good luck!
