Recommended PAL->NTSC VCRs?
Could anyone please tell me what VCRs that can convert PAL to NTSC are recommended? Thanks, Alex. -- email should go to user response at domain alexoren with suffix com "Alex O." <respo***@myrealbox.com> writes: In general, VCRs cannot convert PAL to NTSC. There are some multisystem VCRs that can play a PAL tape and output a signal at PAL rates but with NTSC colour encoding, which can then be fed to some NTSC TVs if they will lock to the 50 Hz vertical sync, but this is *not* a NTSC signal and cannot be recorded or further processed by NTSC equipment. If you just want to watch a PAL tape on a TV, something like what is described above may work for you. If you really want a full conversion to NTSC, you need a "standards converter", not a VCR. The first such model was the famous Panasonic W1 in the early 1990s, and its successor W2. Samsung also made a range with the same function the SV-3000W and 5000W. I'm not sure if any of these are still made as VHS is declining, but they can be picked up used. However, when researching VCRs and converters myself, I discovered that they have terrible reliability ratings. I decided to buy a multisystem VCR with a standalone PAL/NTSC converter. I bought a Toshiba V-E60 and a ComWorld 1200. I've had them for a couple of years now and they're quite nice. I purchased the VCR and converter from this company and I'm not affiliated with them in any way. You can give it a look for reference and ideas. I had no problems with them. http://www.world-import.com/vcr.htm kaboomie I have a Panasonic that does that, but it's pretty old.
