Video capture hardware for notebook PCs

Hello,

I am looking for recommendations for products that allow one to capture
composite video using either a PCCard/PCMCIA or USB (Firewire might be
okay, but we are dealing with composite video here ONLY).

We have looked at the Plextor ConvertX device. The quality is quite
poor IMHO. The Avermedia USB is even worse. The only one that has been
found to be acceptable is ImperX PCMCIA solution, the VCE-Pro. We are
looking for reasonable priced solutions under $600. Again, we have no
digital video output to digitize.

I'm quite happy with Canopus ADVC boxes, which convert analog
(composite/sVideo) to a firewire DV feed.
I use an ADVC100, the model numbers may have changed since. Anyway,
decent quality and a no-brainer to use. Under $600, too.

We should have tried the Canopus line of products instead of Plextor's
ConvertX. I give Plextor a big goose egg for their ConvertX PX-M402U.
They never responded to our emails asking for help with the WDM
drivers.
