If there is a more appropriate group or a FAQ here, please point me
at it. Note crossposts...

   A little background.

Tons of my Dads 8mm film (no sound). I have a projector and a video
capture device that captures *each* frame so I have directories filled
with bitmaps of each image. Capture device is a generic USB from
CompUSA, software is Video Studio 7 SE Basic. (magnet and reed switch on
Reveal 85 projector trips once per frame and that connects to a serial
mouse left mouse button hovered over "capture image", works fine...
setup a little funky)

  So...

I need to convert these images (originally designed for 18
frames/sec) to something that can be played on a DVD. Speed does not
have to be perfectly corrected.

   Suggested Software?

   Suggested DVD or CD format?

I'd like to limit software costs (ie, don't want to buy full version
of Premiere).

Also, what would be nice would be a video capture device that can
capture in B&W and with horizontal reversed. No biggie as I can just add
this to the batch image processing I'm doing.

   Cheers,
Jeff

Womble and is not too expensive and maybe the trial version would work for a
one off, it allows bmp and jpeg stills to be loaded - maybe you could import
them in and export as a MPEG2 Transport file that would be DVD compliant -
big job though - good luck
Maybe you can do it all in Video Studio?
BTW what device picks up the projected image? This sounds like just the
device I'm looking for - heaps of old 8mm segments of my late mother who was
in show biz, would be nice to transfer the lot.

I've had to run the stuff after splicing it into junk footage, project it
onto a small silver screen and pick up with a video camera.

I'll give it a shot. Looks like they have three slightly different
products...

> Maybe you can do it all in Video Studio?

I've had old versions of Video Studio and they seemed pretty good. This
version lacks the chops though. Somewhere (not here) I have versions 1,
2 and I think 5. One of the early versions came with tons of "clip art"
jpegs including a hand colored image of two dogs screwing. I guess back
then they threw in everything!

I have it back projected onto a sheet of 4 mil frosted plex (both sides)
that I got for free from local Plastics shop (too little money to run up
a sale!). Drove me a little crazy looking for rear projection screens
and had several failed attempts.

I have a canon A95 still camera. Like most pocket cameras this has a
video out jack.  There's some caveats...Using manual focus on this
leaves a "MF" symbol on the screen (ditto Macro) so I have this on
Program mode and have backed up the camera a bit. Not satisfied with
this yet...

On the Reveal 85 Projector (mine was $40) there's as knob on the
front (rotates once per frame) that I attached a magnet and this passes
by a $5 Radio Shack window alarm switch.

Don't you have a syncing problem. I would think you would get
flickering and other errata?

Not sure about a little funky but 10 out of 10 for ingenuity!

A program like Pinnacle Studio 9 will do exactly what you want.  I
assume you have ended up with a folder with thousands of sequentially
numbered still pictures.  Just set the "Titles/Still" to 1 frame and
drag all the pictures to the timeline.  Click on "Make Movie" and you
are done.

Well, they are up to 7 versions of Studio 10!

I've noticed that sometime later versions just get cuter (and harder to
find the close button).  Any insight in where to pick up an old version
or which of the current crop?

Jeff

Is this the same OZ?:

This appears to be Atlanta based. Oddly, I'll be back home in Atlanta in
a few days...

There are a lot of them on ebay.  I would try to get the full version,
not the SE one.  I hear a lot of complaints about Studio 10.  I would
stay away from that one.  Also, Studio 9 just happens to be the program
that I use for editing/authoring DVD's.  Most of the other editing
programs probably will do what you want also.
