Hi, I'm looking to buy a new camcorder. I guess minidv is now the
common standard? Also, I want to convert my old hi-8 tapes to computer
so that I can edit them and put them on dvd, so i guess what I would
like is an analog passthrough capability.

I also have a 16x9 tv, so I would like the option (actually I think I
will ALWAYS record in 16x9 mode) to record in 16x9 mode. (since all tvs
will eventually go there anyway).

Any opinions on a solid camera that wont shatter the bank that still
fits my needs? Any particularly good sites out there with reviews?
Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob,
Try http://www.camcorderinfo.com/d/Reviews&level_b=Camcorder.htm

I have a Panasonic GS400, it has all the features you want.  It is now
suceeded by the GS500 which should have the same picture quality but only
minimal manual options and a smaller LCD

Regards,

Martin
