JVC GR-DF550, DF450 jumpy iris issues?

I just purchased a GR-DF450, and I have noticed that when panning from
sunlight to shadows, and back, there are noticeable leaps in exposure.
The iris is very noticeably stepping down or up. I have never used a
JVC before, mostly SONY's. Is this just a problem with my camera, or
have other people noticed this?

I have seen it with every camcorder I have owned (Panasonic, Sony,
Canon), when set on auto exposure. Thy locking the exposure.

Drat! I had a SONY DCR TRV8 that had a beautifully smooth iris. Alas
Alas...

Thanks!

Yes the GR-DF550 (which I've tried before) is very quick on adjusting
exposure based on different lighting situation, much faster than the
old Sony Hi8 cam I have and another current Sony miniDV cam I have
used.
