Puzzle cable/vcr hookup
- Raw cable from wall: split with 2 way 75 ohm splitter, with one leg to the cable box, other leg to the VCR antenna in. - Cable box: AV outs to VCR AV inputs. If you can use the S-Vid out, good, if not use the composite out. - VCR: RF out to TV tuner card antenna in. AV outs to tuner card AV inputs. Turn the VCR on and do a channel scan with the VCR tuner. With VCR off or with VCR on and VCR TV/VCR switch set to TV, do an autoscan on the PC tuner card. The VCR tuner and the TV tuner card will only get the unscrambled analog cable stations, which will appear as a different channel lineup than the cable box. You are right that those tuners can't get all the stations the box does, and they never will. To watch the cable box, you turn the VCR on, set the VCR tuner to the AV in (might be AUX in or similar), then set the PC tuner card to its AV in. With this setup you will be able to record on the VCR from the box or the VCR analog tuner while watching another analog station on the PC using the PC tuner card. You will not be able to record from the box while watching a different station from the box, which is the way it is no matter how you set it up unless you get a second box. Additional option: You will not be able to watch the box while recording using the VCR tuner unless you split the box AV outs and hook up one leg to the tuner card instead of the VCR AV outs (and the other leg to the VCR AV in, as described above). Or, you could take the box RF out and hook it to one input side of a 75 ohm A/B switch with the VCR RF out hooked up to the other input side and the A/B switch out to the tuner card antenna in. Gary E I assume you only have a cable box, VCR and a PC TV tuner card and no TV. >>> All of the above is true, but I did mention in my last post that I do have HDTV and only can setup my autoscan via my vcr remote and view it on the tv. I would try your latest setup later, in the interim, someone else emailed me the following and was wondering your thoughts on it? "The feed goes into the vcr, then to the cable box, then to the hdtv. The vcr will record whatever is on the TV, wheather it is live or from the list. I find that handy when i want to put a segment of a show on a vcr tape to watch later, or to give to someone else. On my system it would record premium channels and ppv. This way it also plays vcr tapes without any adjustments." Of course he does not mention anything about autoscan or my computer TV tuner. Please keep that in mind next time. Simply hook up the component, DVI or HDMI out from the cable box to the HDTV in addition to the setup above. You will see the box channels and output on that input. Also, any video and audio outs from the PC could be hooked up to an AV input on the TV. > Unless you missed something quoting here or I am missing something,> >I would try your latest setup later, in the interim, someone else >emailed me the following and was wondering your thoughts on it? > >"The feed goes into the vcr, then to the cable box, then to the hdtv. >The vcr will record whatever is on the TV, wheather it is live or from >the list.
