Can you record just audio with a standalone dvd recorder with no
problems? No video. For example transferring 7 cd's or so worth of
music (non mp3) from a stereo and connecting it to the dvd recorder,
and then using it to play like a radio.

I have a LiteOn which claims it will record onto audio CDs, IIRC. I
don't know how well it works - never tried it.

However, the way I recorded from radio (or any other analog audio
input, of course) was to record onto a DVD. I connected the composite
video input to a VCR output and the stereo audio input to the
receiver's tape out. I set the VCR to the local TV guide channel, which
(a) was very dull, and (b) had an onscreen clock, which helped me
navigate through the audio.

I was able to record for a few months without the TV input, but then it
started failing to record, so I went back to Plan A, as described
above.
