1280 x 720 Resolution Animation Assembled in Pinnacle for TV Viewing

Hi

I'm trying to use Pinnacle 8.12.7.0 as an editing tool to combine
*.avi's created using 3D Studio Max and a GIF animation tool, Ulead GIF
Animator.

I would like the output to be viewable on today's HDTV's.  As far as I
can tell, 1280 x 720, with a 16:9 aspect ratio, is fairly typical.

For example, the Viewsonic 27" LCD TV

The highest resolution I can get in Pinnacle 8 is a screen width of
1024.

Can I get a higher resolution, working with Pinnacle 8 ?  Do I need to
upgrade to a newer version of Pinnacle to get a higher resolution video
output ?

In previous, smaller videos, where I'm syncing animation with audio, I
used Pinnacle 8.

Are there any other software tools that you can recommend for these
kinds of tasks ?

Thanks.

When you say Pinnacle 8 what exactly are you talking about? Pinnacle Studio?
Pinnalce Liquid? What? Unless you have an HDV codec/plug-in you cannot
output the signal to any monitor, even in this 1024 resolution you speak of.
And, you can only output that image through 1394, unless you have a card
capable of HD and HDV output, i.e. Black Magic Deck Link, etc.

I'm using Pinnacle Studio, Rev. 8.

I'd be happy to get a 1280x720 *.avi video file that I can play using
Windows Media Player.

Ultimately I'd like to view it on a larger monitor, the 27" Viewsonic
for example, and to design the animation so it looks decent at the
native resolution of the TV.

Anyway, thanks very much for the feedback/info about 1394 & the HD
output card.

If all you want is a file to play in WMP there would be no need to involve
the Pinnacle software whatsover. Nor do I think it would accept that
resolution, though I do not know whether it has limiting parameters or not.
Some codecs do and some do not.

3DStudio Max should offer you some output choices for that resolution. I
would not attempt to use anything from a GIF animation program because the
files are only 256 color 8 bit, and the frames are not placed in a linear
format like AVI. If anything you may be better off using Macromedia Flash
and do Flash to AVI comversions. At least the color space would be 24bit.

Next, and I don't mean this to try sound offensive, but if you have 3DStudio
Max why the hell are you messing around with a rinky-dink video program like
Pinnacle Studio to begin with? To me pairing those two is like having a
mansion to live in while driving to work each day in an old broken down car.
How can you go from a totally professional 3D object and environment
creation interface to one that looks like something a first grader would use
to play with?

i'm also generating frames using One Space Designer and Solidworks,
solid modelling programs (even more expensive than Max !)

Both OSD and SWorks are great for modelling (better than Max), but have
very limited animation features.

just looking for a program/programs to help me splice together all the
resulting frames and short *.avi's.
