Hi,

Bit of a newbie to the world of digital Camera so please bare with me
if am I doing something stupid.

My gf gave me a nice camcorder for Xmas and before I knew it I had
filled up the first tape. I then thought I would burn it to DVD and
this is where the problems started.

Firstly my PC only had USB1 so I needed to get a new PCI Card that
supported Firewire as when I tried to transfer the video using USB the
res was really small.

My New firewire card arrived today(Combo with USB2 and Firewire with a
via Chipset) so I installed it in my desktop, no drivers were required
as windows detected and installed the new card.

I then tried Microsoft Movie maker to capture the footage but it kept
stopping after around 7 minutes. I have also tried Ulead Movie Maker
and get the same. with both applications they say device removed and
when I unplug and replug the firewire cable it will wirk again.

I suspect a firewire issue but am not sure if its my new card or the
cam.

Has anyone else had this problem and could anyone sugest a way of
proving were the issue is.

Many Thanks

Ian

PS. 120gb free to copy AVI to and PC running nothing else and has 512mb
ram on a p4 processor.

Before looking deeper, just check your Power Properties.  Could your
computer be set to go into Standby after 7 minutes?
