I think its about time I got a digital camcorder
I want to convert my Hi8 movies to Dvd and I need to
know the best camcorder for the job.
Does anyone know which digital8 models have analogue to digital or if dv
ones can also do this
I only know about the  sony trv-340 so far.
used digital 8 are ok. 800k sensors seem better

I have models trv-103 and trv-350 and both work for this, the 350 also
has pass-thru. If you mean mini-dv, yes, some models have pass thru and
could also serve. Barring, that. you could always copy from your hi-8
to any D8 and then input to the computer, but that involves that extra
copy step that you probably don't want.

As I understand it, some D8 camcorders will play an analog tape and
output a digital stream on FireWire.

Lacking passthrough, the above is more convenient than copying via the
analog connections. It might even prevent one extra generational loss
due to the analog copying step.

As in passthrough, not all D8s seem to have this capability, so check
before buying...
