Sony HandyCam Video Hi8 problems w/ cassette compartment closing

My Sony CCD-TR400 video Hi8 Handycam with SteadyShot cassette
compartment refuses to close with a cassette in the compartment. If I
take out the cassette it will close automatically. I replaced the
cassette with a new one and changed out the lithium battery without any
effect. Any help would be appreciated. Especially if you know how to
affect a fix. Thanks.

All I can offer is the advice that unless there is a simple
obstruction, any fiddling by you will merely multiply the eventual
repair bill. Get it to an expert.
