Problem with JVC GR-D73U

The JVC GR-D73U is connected to a Windows XP Home laptop through a
Firewire cable. We're trying to download movies using Windows Movie
Maker. We are unable to find the manual or the CD that came with the camera.

1) Does this camera require drivers to download video via Firewire?
2) Does anyone know where I can find a manual?

After we tell WMM to capture the video, the camera rewinds the tape and
then spits up an "unknown error", as if that's helpful. Any assistance
would be much appreciated.

Have you try to capture into Sony vaio? I have the same problem with my
camera. There is only fire wire device that I can capture video, just
Sony Vaio. You can use pixela software to capture in USB device, after
that you can convert to mpeg2 in high quality.

It turns out that the JVC is not compatible with Windows XP Service Pack
2. I was able to download on a Windows 2000 machine. There is a patch
from Microsoft, but I tried it, and it did not help. It appears that
there may not be a fix.
