Has anyone ever experience this? It seemed to me that after I have used
the digital 8 on my sony hi8 camcorder, when i use back the hi8 tape on
it, the video recorded is distorted at the bottom part of the picture
and with black lines appearing everywhere. I have clean the tape head a
few times with the cleaning tape from TDK and it the black lines and
distortion remains. it is not the snowy video that is recorded like
when the tape head is dirty. what could i do? is the tape head gone?
Help!!!

Digital8 tape is identical to Hi8 tape except the length of the tape
may be different than the standard 120 minute SP length found in most
Hi8 tapes.   So it should not cause you any problems when used in a Hi8
camcorder.

All Hi8 analog recordings made in a Hi8 camcorder have some distortion
at the bottom of the picture.   You can't see it when viewing the video
on a TV set because the TV set's overscan hides the distortion.    But
view any analog Hi8 recording on a computers monitor and you will see
this distortion.

I have no idea what is causing these black lines you are describing.
I have never seen them so I don't know what you are seeing.

With the exception of the black lines, everything you describe is
normal to a properly operating Hi8 camcorder.
