Closed-Captioning on DVDs...
captions are on during the whole DVD, and other times, while playing the same DVD in the same machine, the captions disappear for awhile, then come back. Any ideas why? Thanks, Ray [This followup was posted to rec.video and a copy was sent to the cited

Any ideas why? the DVD? It's possible some interference or other issue could be preventing your TV from properly decoding the CC signal, which is sent as little dashes at the very, very top of the picture. Some DVD players tend to mangle this if doing any form of conversion, like letterboxing, or even converting to progressive (DVD's are encoded for interlaced.) -- If there is a no_junk in my address, please REMOVE it before replying! subtitles that can be accessed on the DVD. I just think it's weird that part of the movie will play OK, then other parts omit the CC signal!!
