need help in compressing video!

I'm a novice in dealing with miniDV camcorders (bought one just a week
ago) and all things connected with uploading video on PC, comressing
and sharing. I have few friends living far-away and got an idea of
showing them some of mine shots. Most of them have accounts on
sharkle.com and I'll probably join them. My problem is that I can't get
which software I should use to compress my video before uploading there
and could I work with comressed video or only with original avi
stream?! Look forward for an answer!

Try out VirtualDub. It's free and will compress anything to anything
avi as long as you have the codec. Not that obvious the use at first
but very versatile at a great price - http://www.virtualdub.org/

If you are running windows XP the movie maker software will let you
capture , edit and output to various formats.

Free download from microsoft if you havent installed it.
