software to copy from digital camcorder to DVD

Excuse the newbie question, but I am seeking some advice. I am new to
digital camcorders (I am a hobbyist in still photos, but have no
experience with video.) Anyway, I have a young baby and have been using
a digital camcorder to record her development. It records to digital
video tape, if that matters. I am trying to edit this down and record
it onto a DVD that I can play on my home theater DVD player. I am
looking for suggestions on software to accomplish this. I tried the
software that comes with Windows XP home edition, and it would not burn
to DVD. Help, please. I have heard about Adobe Premiere Elements. Will
this do the trick?  I don't need anything too complicated as all I
really want to do is edit and burn. Any help appreciated.

I don't know Premiere Elements, but Ulead's VideoStudio 9 isn't expensive,
and does what you want, on a PC.  Whatever software you choose, you'll need
a FireWire connection to get your video from camcorder DV out to PC.  (USB
is for stills.)  And you need to set your hard drives to "DMA enabled", and
preferably capture your video on a dedicated drve.  VS9 will make simple
titles and chapters if you want.  It's all in the VS9 instructions.  Burning
to DVD however is a slow process, so be patient.

I use ULead VideoStudio 8 that came free (bundled with a firewire card
I bought for $9.99). You need ~14GB for one hour of DV video (high
quality) and additional ~7 GB while the DVD is being created. 1 hour of
DV is equal to 1 DVD at High Quality.
