Hi,

I have a HI8 tape with holiday stuff on it. The video camera recently
broke. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way without buying a new
video camera, to display a HI8 tape?

Thanks,
Kokinho

No there isn't. The only way to play a Hi8 tape is through a Hi8 video
camera or a Digital8 video camera. Why don't you just borrow a video
camera from a friend (you might have trouble finding a Hi8 camera, but
it shouldn't be too hard to find somebody with a Digital8 video camera)
or hire one for the day?

Sony, and possibly others, manufactured Hi8 decks (like VCRs specifically
for Hi8).  I have one.  Perhaps you could pick one up on eBay.

You need to find someone who'll transfer the JI8 tape(s) to DVD or VHS
for you cheaply.

Bye.

Got a friend who runs a transfer business..  Send him the tapes, and
he'll transfer then to another format.

Why would anyone do that when they could do the same locally and be
sure it is done by professional.  However, most people do not want to
spend the extreme amount of money to your "friend", much less send
them. Buying a Hi8 camera on sale at places like Compusa, or Frys can
usually be had for less than $200 or less.  I have seen referbhished
cameras at Compuse for less than 90 dollars.  Check Ebay and you can
pickup one used dirt cheap, especially if you still have some of the
accessories.

Or you just can go digital 8, and pick one of the models that can playback
analog hi 8 tapes...

The solution is too buy a 200 dollar camera over having it professional
transferred for 15 bucks?
