I recently bought a program (password) for a PC based program called
"EZ-Prompter". It seems to have a lot of functionality for such an
inexpensive program. I found it on E-Bay at the buy it now price of $69 and
change. You simply download the program from the supplied link, and when you
win the auction, and pay the fee, the person emails you the password to get
rid of the Shareware nagger. So far it seems like it will be very easy to
use, and gives a lot of bang for the buck. Hope this helps

Um, you're buying pirated software.
This may or may not be a problem for you ethically, but if you're using
this prompter for business, just wait until you have a problem that
needs tech support, and you ask the guy at EZ Prompt for help because,
you know, you're on deadline at the CEO's office...

I checked out the site that was supplied in the first response to my
posting. I can assure you that this is not the same product. There is no
hardware associated with this software, beyond the use of your own laptop
computer.
I did make a mistake in the name. It should read "EzPrompt"tm Ver 1.0,  and
it is copywrited by B.H.Heck Jr. 2005. This is not commercial software, but
rather a very nice shareware program. It has enough functionality to be a
useful semi-professional tool, without the complex functionality that would
make it expensive and commercial. In time, future versions may be large
exotic programs, but this version is a simple effective tool set that does
an adequate job for a very reasonable price.
As for being pirated . . . I doubt it! It's one thing to sell pirated
programs at a flea market or yard sale on disc, quite another to do so on a
legal service like EBay. It would be all too easy for a software pirate to
get busted doing so. EBay maintains records of every buyer and seller as
well as every transaction. They make it a point to verify this information
to prevent just this type of thing. I am fairly certain (99%) that the
product I purchased is legitimate and legal. In fact, the password that
unlocks the programs functionality is a series of biblical references, not
exactly the hallmark of a professional team of software engineers. :) It
just doesn't ring of a criminal act.
As for how this affects me ethically . . . I will continue to use this
software with a clear conscience until such time as someone gives me proof
that this software is anything but completely legal! Wild accusations based
on zero knowledge or factual evidence do not sway my opinion of the product
I bought and paid for, nor the person who sold it to me!
As for being on deadline . . . Anyone working at a level and capacity that
requires stringent scheduling and deadlines should consider purchasing
proven professional products for thier purposes. I would never think of
trying to be a cheapskate on the tools of my profession. This is hobby, or
no budget semi pro level software. Anyone trying to pass themselves off as
professional should think about that. If I were shooting professionally, I
would not hesitate to pay the price for professional level tools.
I did professional level still photography for a few years, and I can tell
you that I would never think of going out with rookie low budget equipment.
On any given day my camera bag of tools was worth enough to pay for a small
house. I'm just getting started with video work, and therefore, would never
try to pass myself off as professional until I have the knowledge, equipment
and experience to perform at that capacity. Anyone who has actually worked
professionally knows this already. You simply would not stay in business
very long. Any artform of this type requires that the operator produce an
end result worthy of the price charged. See what happens to you when you
mess up someones wedding photos or video. The money you saved on cheap
equipment will be spent many times over paying lawers.
Speaking of lawers . . . You may want to buffer down your opinion before you
make such legally binding public allegations concerning the perpetration of
a criminal act. UM . . . I AM NOT BUYING PIRATED SOFTWARE to the best of my
knowledge. Be careful what you post, you are legally liable for public
allegations, slander, defamation and such that you perform on the internet!

Um, the makers of the shareware usually sell it from their own branded
site, not ebay.

My guess is because it's on ebay, it has been used by someone, they
paid the shareware fee to unlock the software, and now are re-selling
the shareware key they bought to you, ata  deep discount. He can afford
the deep discount because he's selling the same copy many times over
and makes it up on volume.

The maker of that shareware doesn't get a cent out of this deal. The
guy selling it to you on ebay can still keep a copy of that cracked
shareware and re-sell the same keys ad infinitum, and again, the
creator of that software you're so fond of is not seeing a dime from
this.

It is my "concern", shall we put it, that by buying the keys on ebay,
you are indeed supporting crackers and/or pirates. It's the same as
buying VHS dubs of a movie the first guy paid full price for.

And if you think your "biblical reference" keycodes *must* mean the guy
is honest, I have a piece of the True Cross I'd like to sell you. My
friend, a government official in Nigeria, is holding onto it for me and
only needs a small fee to pay the customs on it...

Or you can prove I'm a fool, call the software company and tell them
what you have, see if I'm wrong.

BTW,  if you're looking for some awesome, inexpensive prompting
software for PC's and PC laptops, look into Telescript 32 from
DRS-Digitrax. They let you download a complete working demo to try,
free. Every fifth line of text it adds a nag phrase until you pay for
the codes to unlock it. It comes in light verson that's WAY cheap, and
a heavier version that mops the floor with software costing thousands.
Runs on anything from a 486 to the latest models.

I'm a big fan with a small budget, like many of you. This is a great
option to try.

When looking at software on Ebay I always check the web for the named
product.

People are offering copies of commercial software disks,  freeware that
can be downloaded from other sites etc.

check www.ezprompter.com and see if this is what you have.
