Can't Record to VCR from Sony Digital 8

I can't seem to record to any VCR from my sony TRV 840.

I can hook up the AV cables directly to the inputs on a TV and get
video and sound with no problems.

I can also set it up to dub and it turns the recording pause on the VCR
on and off as it should at the various phases of programmed edit, but
the tape has nothing on it. Tried different tapes and different VCR's.

Is there something I am missing ?

Sometimes I get so hung up on a problem that the obvious eludes me.
Maybe that happened to you.

With that as my excuse, I offer this: did you set the VCR to record
from Line In? Or Video In, if they call it that.

I know you know this, you already told us you can view it on the TV
Line In :-)

You mentioned you connected the cables to the TV, but you did not
mention if you connected the cables to the VCR.

I have the same camcorder which I connect to the line-in of my DVD
recorder and it works fine with this machine so I don't think your
problem is in the camcorder.

That indeed sounds perplexing.  If you've tried everything else I
suggest going to somewhere local who carries the camcorder (hopefully
where you bought it) and try the same setup with the same model and a
VCR and see if the results are the same.  If so, it's something in the
setup.  If not, it's individual to yours.  Meanwhile, the local vendor
might be able to troubleshoot for you.
