360 degree shooting/projectingHi,
I am looking to shoot from a stationary point, and span 360 degrees at a specific rate. Once complete, I'd like to then project that footage from the camera location, rotating the projector at the same rate. Any ideas for technical implementation would be much appreciated!! You will need to build a motor control system with regulatable velocity, so you can dial in a motor speed and lock it. Shoot your footage with that. Mount your projector on the same rig. If you need continuous rotation, you'll need a wireless video transmitter. Power will need to be fed through a brush-post system, as well, which is not easy to construct. Good luck! Or you could build something. One rotation, or many? If many, the cables will become a problem. Tell us more about the precise requirements for the projection stage. Hi, thanks for your reply.
My project has been slightly modified. Two stages now exist: the first is for shooting the video. The second is the actual display of the video in a 360 degree envrionment. For shooting, I was thinking of creating a long stage that matched the diameter of the environment. I will shoot on a straight track set at a constant rate. One complete, I want to map the linear shot onto the cylindrical walls of the environment, and project the video 360 degrees around at the same rate that the video was shot with. I will need three rotations, possibly four depending on user input. The rotations will be slow and not continuous. I realize that the cables will be an issue here. I was also considering rear-projecting the footage for a cleaner look and no possibility of blocking the line of projection, but it seems that that may be technically more difficult. I think I'd need the projector on some sort of motorized track surroundung the 30 ft diameter structure. My budget should allow for off-the-shelf purchases, and I am interested in anything that may already exist rather than having to rebuild an existing product. Thanks so much!
