Help
Over the last 40 years I've been in tv, people have endlessly asked
questions like this, and there just isn't an easy answer, especially when the people don't know which job they actually want to do. I think these days most people try to get work experience as a runner. That means do all the rubbish work for no money. Then if they're really really lucky, and in the right place at the right time, they might get to do it and get paid. And if they're really really really lucky they might keep getting paid for it, and maybe shift to third assistant director or whatever. Most people who try, fail to make it, just as in acting or singing, but someone has to win out - it could be you.
