VirtualDub capture filters
I am currently capturing video using VirtualDub 1.6.9 and a Plextor ConvertX M402U. I am capturing at 320x240 using the Microsoft Mpeg4 codec, and would like to use the "sharpen" filter while capturing the video. However when I add the filter and try the capture again, it doesn't seem to be applying the filter. I made sure "Enable RGB filtering" is checked in the Video menu. Can anybody tell me what I may be doing wrong?? I have looked around but can't seem to find the solution to why the filters aren't taking effect while capturing. Thank you very much. -- Chris ch***@groupinfo.com wrote:

The last few iterations of the bleeding edge version have all introduced various bugs, though I don't recall this being one of them. Cheers, Yes, I am getting the same results with the new version, 1.6.10. I am
not sure of the cause, but I have found a workaround. I am simply capturing at 720x480 with no filters applied. Then, running the captured files through the "resize" and "sharpen" filters using the job control, in batches. This is working very good with excellent results. In fact, the end quality is MUCH higher this way than capturing directly from the Plextor at 320x240. One thing I'd like to mention incase others read this post, is that the Plextor has its quirks. When capturing in VirtualDub, you will have to use the Divx Mpeg-4 codec (the Microsoft Mpeg-4 codec cannot be viewed in VirtualDub when trying to open and edit files -- just a black screen appears). I was not able to find a way to get the Microsoft Mpeg-4 codec to work for editing (code is MP4S). Also, before capturing be sure to go to Video / Capture filter... and after you select the Divx codec, change the bitrate to 4M Constant (default is 6M Constant which causes pixellation and really weird things to happen). Hope this helps others! -- Chris
