I need help from Sony VX 2100 users !! My name is Paul, planning to buy
one of this camera but I want to make sure that when I push the manual
Iris button on the side of the camera and the f-stop is at f4 for
example, then when I aim the camera to a bright window, the f stop is
not changing by itself (like closing down due to the bright light).

Can someone confirm it for me ? Please e-mail me at osze***@yahoo.com

thanks, Paul

I have a VX2000, which is nearly identical.  Both cameras have fully manual
aperture and shutter settings, so , yes, you can set the camera to f4 and
shoot out a bright window without the camera stopping down. Incidently,
there is also a "backlight" button if you want to stay in full auto mode.

Thanks for your input, it was my mistake that I did not mention that I
use right now a vx 2000, too. I have no problem with the manual Iris
either. Works perfectly, but someone told me that the vx 2100 is rather
a new design, the first step towards the PD 150 - PD 170 cameras and
not the upgraded version of the vx 2000. This is why I want to hear
from a vx 2100 user or users. Still I do appreciate your input in this.

Sounds kinda like an AE shift mode with the wrong name. Handy for lighting
conditions that aren't ideal for most camera's autoexposure systems, I
guess.

Thanks for your input, let me make it sure what you say: you say that
in manual iris mode the lens opening stays on that level even though
you aim it to a bright light ? The same how my vx 2000 works ? Or it is
still closing down when you turn to the bright window ? This is what I
want to know for sure.
Thanks for your time,  Paul
