Help! Canon MV750i putting tapes on DVD

I am a beginner and have just bought my first camcorder. I want to
upload the video tape in my camcorder onto my computer and then use
Nero?? to put it onto a dvd for keeping! Can anyone explain to me in
easy language what I must do? I have looked at the manual and cannot
understand it.

p.s It is a Canon MV750i and my computer uses Windows XP. When I
connected my camcorder by plugging it in via USB nothing happened.

You are asking too much.

Find a primer on DV editing and read it.

There must be a "For Dummies" book on that.

Go for one of the books listed there, read it, and try it out.
