Dirt cheap "helmet cams" ...?

Hey guys!

I just bought a bike after not riding seriously for years.

I'm planning on putting a video camera on it to get some riding footage -
road, path and light dirt riding.

The TRV320 fits perfectly on the rear rack but that only gives me a
straight-back view. Anyone done that BTW? I'm thinking of using the tripod
socket and just bolting to the rack - then building a padded shell around
the camera.

I'm looking for a dirt-cheap "camera head"... just the lens and a CCD with
an RCA or S-video out that I can feed the TRV with. "Helmet cam!"

I've seen a few cheapo Chinese cameras on eBay but don't know what kind of
video resolution they'll do.

Thoughts? (don't need the LCD or built in recording section... just a head)

I'll keep Googling but thought you'd have some good ideas.

Chris

That's a thought.

Any that'll do standard NTSC 60i to S-video?
(Googling now... ;)

Thanks!

How about a cell phone? That way you could talk and record at the same
time.

Only suggesting a cell phone wouldn't have nearly acceptable resolution.

Look for Nanny Cam's on the net. Lots of little tiny things you can
attach with to a helmet with the universal tool. (Duct Tape)

Ok that is pretty frickin cool, and priced accordingly :(  I took my
Canon Elura 2MC and put it in a plastic bag, then I made a plaster
mould/replica of it, when used that to wrap in fiberglass with a peice
of pre drilled plexiglass on one side.  I cut that case in half and put
a leather strap around it, cut holes for the lens and buttons and
mounted that on my helmet.  Got tired of screwing around with wires and
trying to reach the recording button in my pack.

And now I must have one of those Samsungs...

Hey Brian.

Is "sticky pod" just the mounting systems or do they have small cameras
available?
http://www.stickypod.com/ was the site I found.

The DV Show
stickypod is the mounting system for any small camcorder- they have one that
sticks directly to your helmet. Kinda funky looking but functional

Is there a way to connect these "lipstick" cameras that are so popular
as "helmet cams" to a notebook computer so that you can use a video
capture software to record? I would think there would be such a direct
method rather than connecitng to the analog input of a VTR or
camcorder and then going through the bother of digitizing that to get
footage inside a computer.

(Carrying around a notebook computer may not be suitable for action
sports but it would be suitable for say inside a vehicle.)
