Can a PVR record Dish Network?

I'll start out by saying my wife is from Brazil and, to date, I have found
no other channel line-up than Dish Network that carries Brazilian channels
(and even then they carry one).

So, understanding that I am stuck with Dish Network I HATE their DRV
service.  It has dropped shows, it will have a show listed and not record
it, it will not find shows when it searches for them.  In a word "HATE".

Can I set up a PC to record shows off the satellite?  What about afterwards?
How would I go about getting DVR material onto a PC to edit out the
commercials and put on a DVD?

Thanks,
Tom P.

I would look into SnapStream's Beyond TV (www.snapstream.com), it is
what I use for my PVR.

Their guide service is only for the US and Canada, but you can use
another program (XMLTV Importer) to import guide data into Beyond TV.
Also, they have ir blasters or whatever you might need to control your
cable box for sale on their site.

I just bought one of those Pioneer DVR's..  I love it so far.  Makes a 6
hour DVD in 7 mins!!   The DVD plays in every device too.

Anyway.. I noticed that there is a RCA composite input jack that's
labels "autostart".  When I looked this up, it says in the manual that
when a signal is placed on the RCA jacks, that it simply just records
it, as long as the signal is there.  Presumably this is for use with
cable boxes, dish or direct TV.  I haven't tried it, but it sounds like
an interesting option to keep in the back on my mind.
