Windows XP not seeing my DV camera
camera? I've made absolutely no changes to my computer, but out of the blue, Windows XP service pack 2 will not recognize that my sony DV camera is connected. It was working fine, but suddenly the computer will not even see the camera. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? Wow Steve - where do you live?! The Congo?! LOL!
Seriously, never had that problem in a basement office that's chronically damp - but in Canada we're known more for snow than damp. :) C. Windows XP without SP 2, and the firewire started working again. Reinstalled SP2, it stopped working. Then 1 more time no SP2 it worked again. Could it be related to SP2 firewall on the 1394 ports? Is your IEEE1394 network connection disabled?

tops). Usually a "boot in the arse" is all it takes. Leave it connected, turn the camera off, wait a minute, then turn it back on. Failing that, leave it connected and on in VTR mode, reboot the system. Finally, system related items: go to your network connections, ensure the IEEE1394 LAN connection is DISABLED - preferably uninstalled altogether. Then go into the Windows Device Manager and find the IEEE1394 card - likely under "Generic OHCI Host Controller." Uninstall it. Select "Scan for hardware changes" and it should find it again. I believe a reboot has the same effect - unless you've disabled that feature, most XP boxes scan for hardware changes at boot. So, there you have it! A crash course in fixing XP SP2 Firewire connectivity problems. Try all that and post back with the result.
