i.Link (ieee 1394) video capture software

I have a sony D8 (digital recording on 8mm tape) handycam. It has an
i.link (ieee 1394/firewire) port. I have a card in my windows pc, and a
cable.

The Sony software is useless.

I want to capture the video through the firewire to my HD, make some
really simple edits (like cutting a segment to length), and record them
to DVD. I've got the Ulead Burn Now software, and it functions for
making the DVDs, so now I need the software to get the video off the
handycam and cut it to length.

I'd like something simple and cheap -- I don't need any fancy features.

Don't know what version of Windows you're using but Windows XP comes with
Windows Movie Maker (free).
It'd probably work fine for most of what you're doing. (though I've never
burned a DVD from it - don't know if it can do that)

I don't know either but Nero can and comes with most DVD burners so he's got
that at least.
Tom P.

Or he could hire me and I'll do it.  ;)

I have Windows 2000, so no Windows Movie Maker.

Nero Ultra will do the capture and simple editing.    The retail price is
relatively high, but you can usually find it selling quite a bit cheaper on
fleabay.

Hey! Thanks for the link - I'd NEVER heard of CapDVHS until now and I've
been looking for a no-frills, bare-bones capture tool to save me the trouble
of going into Premiere Pro.

Thanks!
C.

Mr. Tapeguy
We have some leftover copies of Cyberlink PowerProducer Pro 2.5 that
might do the trick.
