Looks just like their existing HDV camera, the HDR-FX1.  Any idea what
the diffs are?

In addition to an extra $2,000 in price, the press release does mention a
"specialized for QUALIA" Carl Zeiss lens.  I'm surprised
www.camcorderinfo.com hasn't picked up the story yet...

This is clearly a reaction to Panasonic's proposed AG-HVX200.

We'll see who gets to market first...

Heh, according to the second url, the Sony HD camcorders don't support
24p.  That's pretty stupid.  Why would anyone buy a $6000 HD camcorder
if they weren't going to shoot in 24p?  Surely not to make home videos
of their cat to play on their widescreen TV?

The Panasonic thing seems nuts too.  Why record to flash card?  It
would make more sense if they put an iPod-like hard disc into the
camera (60GB or whatever), or let you record directly to an external
Firewire disc (e.g. iPod).  I don't know if any cameras currently let
you do that.

We're in the middle of a big discussion about the proposed Panny on the
Google DV-L list right now. I won't repeat it here but it's worth a cruise
on over.
