older pc & newer card...
My PC has the configuration as follows: Intel Pentium 4 3,06GHz HT (FSB533) ABIT BD7II-RAID (i845 chipset) Kingston 1042MB DDR 266 (2 * 512MB, timings 2-2-2-5) Gainward GeForce 3 Ti 64MB As you can see the compy was bought more than 2 years ago (2,5 to be exact). By this time I replaced the old P4 1.7 CPU with the one I have now (P4 3,06 with HT) and bought second 512MB RAM module. Now I am thinking about buying the new graphics card: The ASUS V9999LE (GF 6800LE) 128MB to be exact. I can buy a model that is for sure running on 16/6 without any artifacts and bugs. And now.... Is it a good idea to invest the money into that kind of card for my current config? Will it work fine in all the games like Doom3, HL2 and FarCry? Or will my CPU/RAM be a bottleneck in some way? Note that my FSB is 533 not 800! And my RAM is running on 266MHz :) I know that it will be surely faster than my GF3Ti but will anything be decreasing the power of the new card? If yes, what? Thanks in advance. Best regards -- Byru byru:

No. You are not CPU bottlenecked with a 6800 or LE.> will anything be decreasing the power of the new card? No.-- Mac Cool > What is 16/6? What price is the card compared to a 6600GT or 6800? 16/6 stands for 16 pipes and 6 vertex unlocked (like GT or Ultra). Thestandard for that card (LE) is 8/4. Unlocking it to 16/6 makes the card about 40% better performer. The price is the same as the standard LE card (about 100$ cheaper tham raw 6800 afaik). Byru byru:

The The difference between a 6800LE and 6800 here is only $20, $80 more than > price is the same as the standard LE card (about 100$ cheaper tham > raw 6800 afaik). an LE for a GT. Sounds like a good deal if the card can be unlocked. -- Mac Cool > The difference between a 6800LE and 6800 here is only $20, $80 more than Done,> an LE for a GT. Sounds like a good deal if the card can be unlocked. I have bought the ASUS V9999LE (GeForce 6800LE). The model is succesfully unlocked to 16/6 mode. You were right, my hardware dont stop the card. It is amazing to see doom 3 and farcry on 6xxx series card in comparison to GF3Ti card (the older one). I havent overclocked the card, i will but even on 300/700 the card performs great. Thanks for answers, i have made a great decision! Best regards Byru |
