Help!!!
I have problem and I don't know what to do. Sorry for my English. My computer (WinXP Pro SP2, Pcchips m825, Athlon1700+, 250 ram) stalls while i'm using Kazaa or other p2p programs. I happen usually about 5-30 minuts after i turn this program on. Only when I disconnect internet everything becomes OK. Usage of procesor in that moment isn't big and my memory is also OK. My firewall is OK too. My computer is almost one year old and I'm sure that my memory is OK and my HDD hasn't any bad sectors. System was install a few times and each time i have this problem, i installed also different version of Kazaa(Emule and so on...). Everything is OK while I'm using WinMe, i have no problems and such programs like Kazaa can run long time and computer doesn't stall. I don't know if it is caused by hardwere or softwere. 2 years ago I had differend computer but with mainboard from the same producent (PCChips 725mrt). I had WinNT and I had the same problem but then I got just "blue screen" after 5-30 minutes of using Kazaa. Similary this problem didn't happen while i was using WinMe or 98. When I installed WindowsXP (on my old computer) I have the same problem (but without "blue screen"). Please help me. I've been looking for a help for half a year and noone can help me. Maybe someone had similar problem?? Can it be caused by mainboard? Both is Pcchips:( MP wrote:

Thanks. Today I'll try how it will work with agp video card. On a Kt133a VIA board from ASUS ages ago I gave to my sister it would freeze. I tried lots of stuff. I RMAd it to ASUS and they sent me another one. THAT STALLED TOO ! And they sent me a curt note about how this will be my last board ! Thats why I call ASUS a bit stingy vs ABIT which seemed to welcome my RMAs. Anyway --- I knew I had to figure this one out on my own and tried different things for months until I noticed that the fan on the northbridge was intermittently stopping. After I replaced that I havent had any problems on it. With your PC CHIPs it could be anything cause thats a pretty low quality board - bad caps or dying fan - check that. Check your temps with motherboard monitor. Motherboard monitor during installation also has an option for the software not to scan certain things on the board which cause freezes. . It could be drivers , softwareapps and hardware problems etc. I then bought an ABIT that melted down after a year or so and I got an RMA on it. They sent me this board right now Im using as a second PC cause I STILL havent gotten all my AMD 64 parts after waiting about a month (the ATI 800XL card which they now say may take until MARCH ! This replacement ABIT unfortunately has had intermittent freezes. I tried everything for months -- stripping my PC down, different bios, updates to WIN, new and old drivers --- NOTHING . I searched and tried new power supplies , memory etc NOTHING. I finally gave up as it seemed to be concentrated on the highpoint controller.. I just avoided that and used the VIA controller. Now that Ive started using it again fill time the freezing problems seems to be on the VIA controllers too. Thats what REALLY turned me off VIA chipsets though it might be unfair - problems with the KT133 ( hard disk corruption that was later patched by a fix) and now this. I had the ASUS nforce2 after this board which I got rid of for the AMD 64. The nforce was very stable except for sound stuttering if I overloaded the PCI bus it seemed. Anyway --- have you also tried memtest86 ? Looked in your events folder in WIN XP for any reported problems? Looked for spyware ? Theres the free search and destroy program you can use. You have to be careful when you search for it. Several sleaze bags with pay programs have setup sleaze ball sites that mimic search and destroy --- when you go to them they load your system up with horrible spyware and trojans etc that screw your system up royally. If you are using a modem have you tried moving it to different slots ? Theres probably a million other things people can think of. As for my new problem Im ready to smash this Abit kt333 with a hammer. Im sick of it. I dont want to spend ONE more hour troubleshooting this piece of ka ka. The fan on the southbridge is spinning -- maybe its not good enough? I cleaned the heatsink out (dust) and fan. It does feel hot. You might want to check that too. I changed the drivers on the video etc. I could conceivably RMA it again since its never really worked right and its still slightly under the 3 yr warranty. I might just buy a cheap nforce board. If I was on the mainland I that would defintely be my plan with cheap refurb boards as low as $30-$45 and new ones too. A lot of thanks. Everything changed when I uninstall ZoneAlarm and install
Sygete Firewall. Now everything is OK. After many problem with PCchips mainboards I thought that it is hardware
problem too. But it was softwere problem. |
