Prescott CPU's
form of Intel CPU and compatible board (becuase quite simply i don't feel that 32bit AMD cut it anymore for Vid editing, gaming etc)- The first thing is that is there a significant difference between the 3.0Ghz and the 3.2Ghz for the price? What are the benefits or disadvantages of a Prescott CPU? And how does it compare to any alternatives? Whats the differences/Advantages between Socket 775 and socket 478? Also im looking for a Prescott enabled board (obviously :) ) with dual memory architecture, AGP graphics, overclocking capabilities etc- any ideas? Im looking to buy from within the UK if possible :) Thanks in advance, FingAZ. It will be on the market wisin a few weeks. Boba Vankufer Show quoteHide quote > > Thanks in advance, > FingAZ. > > On Sun, 13 Feb 2005 14:17:01 GMT, "FingAZ"

(particularly if using modern editing app and codec), it's not a cost-effective upgrade for gaming... your XP3200 could easily be faster than the 3.2GHz P4 if you overclocked it, but again it could depend on the game... and you make no mention of the video card, which could be the larger bottleneck. > Alternatives like?>What are the benefits or disadvantages of a Prescott CPU? Northwood had more performance per MHz, but it's capped already, you gotta go with Prescott if you want to overclock very far or buy faster than (I foget the max Northwood core) xxxx, but I'd suggest you aim a bit higher anyway, there's not much sense in replacing XP3200 with P4 3.2GHz. The other alternative is an Athlon 64. That's your best bet. SSE3 helps it compete in video editing and it's faster at gaming than *any* P4 (comparing similar speed grades, price-points). > 478 is being phased out. 775 uses BGA (solder balls on the>Whats the differences/Advantages between Socket 775 and socket 478? Getting a 3.0-3.2GHz AGP-based Intel box isn't much if any upgrade at all except for a few percent (not enough, IMO) better video editing.
