Socket 7 mobo without a mouse port... seeks a way to utilize mice.

I have a socket 7 mobo with no PS/2 mouse port. It is a K6BV3+/66 to be
precise. It has a large style keyboard port, but no mouse port. It has
some headers which ***I assume*** were connected to some piece of hardware
which someone would plug a mouse into. I assume this piece of hardware
evaporated along with the case.

What would one call such an adapter?
And where would one plug it in?
***Say... a 6 pin header with no markings?
***Or maybe... a 9pin "COM" header?

I is confused.

I is feeling less smart than the mouse.

Its made for a serial mouse. Good luck finding an adapter for that.

Really? It has headers for 2 USB 1.0 ports. I guess I'll have to get it a
USB mouse. I hate to do that when I have a whole box of the PS/2 variety.
Seems like an odd configuration at any rate.

A serial mouse was the norm 'back then', You might also find that
the board has a PS2 pinout, but no backplate with the PS2 socket.
Again, good luck finding one of those to match the pin out.

Yeah, see... that's the confusing bit. All the specs I've found say it
SHOULD have (cut & paste)

1 PS/2 mouse port and
1 PS/2 or AT keyboard port

...but it just has the one AT port...

The good news is that I looked through some more boxes, and I found some
USB ports, a cordless logitech USB mouse kit, and some (drum roll)
batteries! Now, I just need to find the right software...

I'm still convinced some of those pinouts on the board HAVE to be for a
PS/2 mouse, but I admit that it is a pretty outdated board.

I have the same MoBo with 1MB Cashe memory on board .
6 Pin under AT keyboard socket is your PS/2 Mouse connection( J1 )
J4 ( COM1 ) if for AT mouse connection , located under J1
J2 and J3 ( 5 and 4 Pins ) are your USB 0 & USB 1 ) located left side of
ISA slots.

That's kind of what I thought, Cyrus, but I could not find a 6 pin to
female mouse port thingy anywhere. I think I'd almost have to come across
one sitting in an old AT-style case somewhere.

I'm going to look for this grouping of small wires anyway just to feed my
need for obsolete hardware.
