Brother laser printers
for home use. However, I've never had a Laser printer and I'm not to familiar with the following manufacturer. Any help for the following is appreciated. How easy are Brother printers to use? Is their setup/'how to use' information sufficient? Do they require software modules that may not be obtainable (or require specialized knowledge)? Do they have frequent hardware problems or software glitches? Thanks again for any tips. Jack I have used a Brother HL 1440 for years and am delighted with it.
Before I moved to laser, I used a Brother dot matrix with equal satisfaction. Am thinking of moving to the Brother 2700 color laser but haven't decided yet. The email support from Brother has been good. Sometimes it takes a day or two to get a response but those responses have been satisfying. One thing I like about the HL 1440 (and according to Brother, exists in all their laser printers) is that the driver permits manual duplex printing. It prints the proper pages first and then tells you how to insert them to print the other side right side up and on the correct side. That is important to me. Over the life of my HL 1440 there have been a couple of driver updates which I have downloaded but don't really know why. I wasn't having problems. Yes, their setup info is as good as anybody's and the two printers I have had are as easy to use as anybody's Others may have had less pleasant experiences with Brother than I but I won't hesitate to buy a Brother color laser when I decide to spend the money. In fact, they are usually the easiest to
use, when compared to the other types. My preference is for the HP laser printers. When changing the toner cartridge, you get almost a complete new assembly. The toner for the HP is a bit more expensive, but to me, it is worth the difference. When you get the new printer, install the software for it, plug the laser printer to the computer USB port, and follow the instructions. If your printer is a parallel type, it is best to shut everything down when connecting. -- JANA _____ "J.
