hi pen

thanks for that, but i've already been there. creative in their wisdom only
allow you to download an updater, which means you have to do an install of
out of date drivers from the cd and then update to the latest ones. unless
i'm being really stupid, i cannot find what i need on their site.

if you can see it, please let me know - thanks!

Have you tried the updater?

Going from memory I'm pretty sure it works even if you don't have
drivers already installed.

The details of the driver update state:

"An existing Sound Blaster Extigy software package must be installed
before installing this update."

Understood.  Did you try it anyway?

It did work once upon a time, I don't know if it still does though or if
the installer was updated to check for existing drivers.

I was just pointing out a detail in the docs -- I'm not the original poster.

Have you actually tried to use it?  While I can't be sure of the
Extigy drivers (as I don't own one), I have owned a few Creative
cards.  Their naming system for the downloadable drivers is really
goofy.  Creative names almost all their downloadables with the word
"update" or "updater" in it.  With the SB16 and SBLive "update"
drivers, I've installed these on totally clean installs of Win98SE and
WinXP without having to even touch the CD.  Good thing too, as I
misplaced my SBLive CD some time back.  I've a pretty good idea where
it probably is, but I don't really want to dig it out unless I have
to, and so far, I haven't had to.

It's a bare install, so no CD player or sound editing stuff that you'd
find on the CD, but most people already have other programs that do
that stuff anyways.

Can't hurt to try it if you haven't already.

I've got a copy in NRG (Nero) format kicking around if you want.

I'm not overly inclined to download it and convert it to another format
(although I detest NRG myself, my laziness is overriding today)

Send me an email or post a valid address and I'll send you the URL.
It's ~150MB
