cdrw drive problem

I have an Acer CDRW drive 10*8*32.  This drive keeps opening and closing
on its own.  Sometimes it does it repeatedly and sometimes it will go
for hours without doing anything. It doesnt make a difference if there
is a disk in it or not.  Does it seem like a hardware or software
problem? Thanks in advance.

Do you have children?  Are they pranksters?

Search your machine for OPEN_CD.EXE

You could find out if it is strictly a hardware problem by unplugging
the EIDE cable from the drive.  It it still opens and closes randomly,
then you know it must be hardware.
