1394 not seeing HDD

I installed another 1394 PCI card to supplement the jack on my sound card
but I can not see my HDD with this installation. It appears in DM as
installed in slot 4 while the one that works is shown in slot 1. Why can't
my HDD be detected with the new card?

Thanks.

Is the HDD connected to the 1394 PCI card? If not, try switching the PCI
slots. You could also buy a splitter/hub for the curent 1394 jack you have.

I finally got it to work but it is not like USB. I can not just plug in my
external drive and always expect it to become ready. Sometimes I have to
reboot and it is hard to figure out what procedure works. If I plug in my
camcorder it will always be detected and never have to reboot.

Does the hard drive support hot plugging?

I guess it doesn't. I thought it did but haven't used it in some time. I
seem to be having some conflict when I boot with Sony Camcorder on while
connected to firewire and USB. The Camcorder LCD says "PC" but it hangs. I
am not even sure what PC mode actually does. I have had this camera for 4
years now and never connected it this way.
