Problem running two sticks of RAM
I was wondering if someone could help me with this problem. I recently built a new computer: P4 3.0GHz Asus P5P800 Motherboard 80GB Seagate SATA HDD Win XP Home NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 The problem is, when I first started using the computer, programs would shut down after about 5 - 10 minutes. Sometimes the whole computer would shut down. I concluded the computer was shutting down because the PSU wasn't powerful enough. I fixed that by getting a new Antec 480W PSU. But I still had programs shutting down. I was using two sticks of 512MB PC 3200 Kingstons. I took out a stick of RAM and then everything was fine. No problems at all. I swapped the two sticks around and still had no problems. When I tried them both together again, I was getting crititical errors and shutdowns again. I want to have 1GB of RAM. Will a single stick of RAM work, or is there something I'm doing wrong? TIA Xizor Are you sure you are putting the two sticks in the correct sockets? Check your
manual. socket combination? Also, check to see if one of the RAM's are defective, in the way that they match each other. I have had instances where when I put two together, they fail as a pair, but not as a single. The solution was to get them exchanged. -- Jerry G. ====== "Xizor" <dannyf_82NO@SPAMhotmail.com> wrote in message I was wondering if someone could help me with this problem.news:1i8%d.4436$C7.1187@news-server.bigpond.net.au... Xizor Be sure your memory is in the same color slots, and if your CPU is a 530J,
make sure your bios version is 1002 or newer Show quoteHide quote "Xizor" <dannyf_82NO@SPAMhotmail.com> wrote in message news:1i8%d.4436$C7.1187@news-server.bigpond.net.au... > Hi everyone, > > I was wondering if someone could help me with this problem. > > I recently built a new computer: > > P4 3.0GHz > Asus P5P800 Motherboard > 80GB Seagate SATA HDD > Win XP Home > NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 > > The problem is, when I first started using the computer, programs would > shut down after about 5 - 10 minutes.
